Bio

Dr. Melissa A. Murphy, PhD, RDN earned her doctoral degree in Nutritional Science at Rutgers University, studying the regulation of blood pressure and its relationship to micronutrient metabolism. Her work is broadly focused on metabolism and health, with focuses on taste perception and cephalic phase response, one carbon metabolism, and nitrates. She has specialties in nutritional biochemistry and cardiovascular health. She is currently a California Delegate for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Dr. Murphy is a member of the World Naturopathic Foundation Research Committee and pursues work in the area of "food as medicine" as well as well as individualized and holistic nutrition, alternative medicine, mindfulness. She is interested in bridging the gap between eastern and western medicine and integrating these practices. 

Through her work in academia, Dr. Murphy has also studied educational pedagogy with focus on technology in learning and active learning methods. She is currently pursuing research on artificial intelligence in the classroom and in healthcare practice. She has earned grants from Course hero for this work and is also a subject matter expert on this topic for Course Hero and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Outside of academia, Dr. Murphy has explored many hobbies including crafting puppeteering, endurance sports and acrobatics. She is also a trained Reiki practitioner and facilitates many mindfulness practices. She tries to be well rounded and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
