Bio
My teaching is focused on getting to know about new and emerging media arts and technologies by examining how they fit into larger trends and patterns in the history of the arts and humanities. It's also informed by my research, which is focused on how how real world built environments (freeways, neighborhoods, and other infrastructure) influence what we see on our screens and how the screen arts have influenced the folks who build and design our built environments. Perhaps most importantly, my teaching is informed by my own history as a non-traditional, full-time working student who transferred from community college to a four-year institution. I'm deeply invested in making my courses accessible to all students and in creating opportunities for students to be challenged without making my courses exclusionary.
In addition to teaching, I am currently working on my book about the relationship between the Interstate Highway System and popular media in the mid-to-late 20th century. I enjoy playing with my dog, running in the hills behind campus, playing guitar, and hold a first degree black belt in Judo.
I'm always happy to chat about my courses with anyone who is curious about taking them. Feel free to drop me an email.
