Bio

Hi. My name is Thomas F. Corrigan (or T.C.). I am a Professor in CSUSB's Department of Communication and Media.

Education

PhD, Mass Communications, Pennsylvania State University

MS, Communication, Florida State University

BA, Communication, Florida State University

Courses/Teaching

In 2024-2025, I am teaching courses in Digital Media and Society (COMM 3305), Media Institutions in Context (COMM 3301), and the Inland Empire News Ecosystem (COMM 6093/5319).

Research and Teaching Interests

My research and teaching examines the relationship between wealth, power, and the media--also known as the political economy of media and communication (PEMC). Specifically, I write about methods for doing critical political-economic research, and I use those methods to study various media topics, including the news ecosystem in California's Inland Empire, the sports media business, and the "hope labor" of digital creatives and interns.

I am a co-editor of Routledge's 2024 volume, Political Economy of Media and Communication: Methodological Approaches. I coordinate CSUSB's Local Journalism Partnerships Initiative, and I write the Inland Empire MediaWatch newsletter. I am also a steering committee member for the Union for Democratic Communications.

For more about my scholarship and current projects, see my Linktree here.

For fun, I organize a pickup basketball group on campus at CSUSB. I coach my kids' youth sports teams, and we do plenty of camping at state and national parks. Our family has also twice walked the 500-mile Camino de Santiago pilgrimage across northern Spain--with the kids in strollers!
