Teaching

Dr. Seal received his Ph.D. in Business Administration from George Washington University (where he was awarded the 2006 Board of Advisors Doctoral Student Award for Outstanding Commitment to the School of Business), his MA in Counseling Psychology from Boston College, and his BS in Psychology from Santa Clara University (where he was awarded the 1991 Nobili Medal.  He teaches Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management at the graduates and undergraduate level.  His teaching philosophy is to integrate management theory and practice through real world projects and student written, instructor facilitated cases.

Research

Dr. Seal focuses his research agenda on the practical application of emotional intelligence research, and is credited with creating the new social emotional competence development model.  He has written and presented on the development of social and emotional competencies in higher education and his publication record includes such journals as Human Performance, Organization Management Journal, Journal of Management Education, Journal of Psychological Issues in Organizational Culture, and Journal of Organizational Psychology.

Business Consulting

More recently, Dr. Seal has assembled a team of faculty colleagues, students, and alumni to provide non-profit consulting and professional development services, including Flexible Work Schedules, Performance Management, Leadership Development, Succession Planning, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.  He has also served as the Associate Vice President and Dean of Undergraduate Studies for CSUSB, as well as the Associate Dean of Student Success & Assessment, and the MBA Director at JHBC.  Before coming to CSUSB, he was the inaugural Director of Center for Social and Emotional Competence at the University of the Pacific and was an Assistant Professor of Commerce at Niagara University.  Before transitioning to academia, he worked in various managerial and executive roles in the non-profit, real estate, and staffing industries for Goodwill Industries, Coldwell Banker, and Aquent, Inc. respectively.

Awards/Recognition

Dr. Seal has been inducted into Phi Beta Delta, Society of International Scholars, and Beta Gamma Sigma, International Honor Society.  He is also a member of the Consortium for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organizations and the Academy of Management.  He is the past-President of the Inland Empire Society for Human Resource Management (IE SHRM), and has earned both his Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and Society for Human Resource Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certifications.
