What advice would you give to new transfer students coming to CSUSB?
It took me a long time to get to where I am today. Though it all, I am proud to have pushed myself to keep going. I encourage any student to not be afraid to follow your dreams. You can do whatever you want to do or be whoever you want to be. When times get challenging, just remember that there is a light at the end of tunnel. You will accomplish what you set out to achieve.
Why are you proud to be a transfer student? Provide highlights of your college career so far.
I am proud to be a transfer student because to me it does not matter where you start or how you start. When it comes to your personal academic goals, it only matters that you finish what you set out to achieve.
What was the most challenging part of being a transfer student? How did you overcome it?
The only challenge I had as a transfer student was completing my course credits at the community college level in a timely manner. I am a full time working mom, so it became challenging balancing home-work-school life. I had to take courses at night, on the weekends, or online. It was difficult to sometimes get support or access academic resources. But I always tried my best not to take on more than I can handle. If that meant only taking one class for a particular semester, than so be it. Either way, I never let it stop me from moving forward and working toward my goal.
What were your reasons for transferring? Have you achieved your objectives?
When I made the decision to go back to school, I knew early on that starting at a community college and transferring to CSUSB was the best plan of action for me. I had been out of school for a long time and wanted to ease my way back into school. Although it took me a while, choosing this plan of action has allowed me to achieve my objectives.
How has CSUSB helped you attain your academic and personal goals as a transfer student?
CSUSB has made the transition into higher level education smooth and simple. The academic advisors are extremely knowledgeable and helpful in ensuring transfer students achieve academic success.
What is the best part of being a transfer student? What makes transfer students special?
The best part of being a transfer student is coming into the university with half of your degree already completed. I saved a lot of money and earned a lot of credits attending community college. It put me at a good level of academic achievement.
