What advice would you give to new transfer students coming to CSUSB?
Do not overwhelm yourself with too many units if you are working and going to school at the same time. Its not how fast you can finish, its about the experience in getting to your goal. YOU WILL GET THERE!
Why are you proud to be a transfer student? Provide highlights of your college career so far.
I'm proud to be a transfer student because I had great teachers from College of the Desert. My professor in statistics really inspired me to keep going. The classes from the community college prepared me for CSUSB. I'm very grateful for that.
What was the most challenging part of being a transfer student? How did you overcome it?
The most challenging part was filling out the application for CSUSB. Scott Cooper from the transfer center at COD was amazing in getting us through the process.
What were your reasons for transferring? Have you achieved your objectives?
It is a personal goal of mine to obtain a college degree. I really want to set an example for my daughter (who is at College of the Desert) that perseverance pays off.
How has CSUSB helped you attain your academic and personal goals as a transfer student?
During these times (covid-19), being able to communicate with someone from every department has been helpful with getting my classes sorted out. I really thought it was going to be hectic, but everyone has been very helpful-from admissions, counseling , and the financial office.
What is the best part of being a transfer student? What makes transfer students special?
I believe transfer students are special because many who have attended a community college are usually full time workers with families, and some are single parents with full or part time jobs. Many of these transfer students, whether they started late in life, or didnt have the grades straight out of high school- still shows the commitment and perseverance they have to go to school and finish their education. I applaud these people for their courage to go back to school-because its not easy.
