Applied Data Science, M.S.
Program Description:
The Master of Science in Applied Data Science program aims to admit students from various backgrounds with undergraduate training in quantitative fields (e.g., engineering, physics, math, statistics). Applicants are expected to have some experience in programming and probability/statistics. The objective of this Applied Data Science program is to provide training in various aspects of the data lifecycle. Students will learn techniques in data collection, data cleaning, data integration, data management, and data visualization, as well as the theories and techniques necessary for data analysis from data mining, machine learning, information retrieval, and artificial intelligence.
The program is designed to help students develop analytical, problem-solving, and practical skills in computer science through advanced coursework, directed software development, and supervised research and independent studies. Students should acquire sufficient and requisite knowledge in the discipline as well as critical thinking, and oral and written communication skills to qualify them for highly technical positions in the industry and to enable them to be successful in a doctoral program in computer science.
