Single Subject with Bilingual Added Authorization Credential
Program Description:
The Spanish Bilingual Authorization can be added to a Single Subject Credential. To qualify, Spanish Bilingual students must fulfill linguistic requirements, complete alternative coursework, and complete a minimum of 20 hours of clinical practice in bilingual settings, as outlined by the CTC. Clinical practice is typically embedded within observation hours in EDMD 5101 or EDMD 5102.

Application Details:
Bilingual students must complete the following steps and attend an interview with the program coordinator before admission:
- Complete the Bilingual Authorization Interest Form;
- Enroll in the next WCOE Spanish Placement test;
- Prepare a draft of your program plan. Before attending orientation, you must create a draft of your Program Plan;
- Provide unofficial transcripts;
- A grade point average (G.P.A.) of at least 2.5 in all baccalaureate and postbaccalaureate coursework.
Attend a Virtual Information Session
Meetings are intended to guide prospective students on how to best meet the requirements for admission to the credential program.
Mandatory Faculty Interview
All applicants who have submitted a complete application will receive notification (approximately 10 business days from the date of submission) via myCoyote email to set up a mandatory faculty interview. Applicants will not be considered for admission to the program without the faculty interview.

Subject Matter Requirement (SMR) may be demonstrated through one of the following five options:

CTC Approved Subject Matter Preparation Program
Completion of a subject matter program approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. At CSUSB, we have approved subject matter programs in the following areas:- Art (Visual Studies/Art Education)
- English (English Teacher Preparation Program)
- Mathematics (Teaching Mathematics)
- Music (Pre-Certification Music Education)
- Kinesiology (Physical Education & Adapted Physical Education)
- History (Pre-Credential Concentration)
- Spanish (Hispanic Language, Literature & Civilization)
Applicants who complete a CTC-approved subject matter program outside of CSUSB must submit an official subject matter verification letter signed by the authorized representative.

Baccalaureate or Higher Degree in the Exact Subject Area
Successful completion of a baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. For single subject credentials, a major in one of the exact subject areas in which the Commission credentials candidates. The degree must be in an academic major that is an exact match to the title of the subject matter in the credential. -
Passage of the CSET Exam
Passage of a subject matter examination, the California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET). Applicants using the CSET exam to satisfy SMR must pass all subtests and submit official scores with their application. -
Coursework Aligned to the Subject Matter Domains
Successful completion of coursework at one or more regionally accredited institutions of higher education that addresses each of the domains of the subject matter requirements adopted by the Commission in a content area of the credential, as verified by a Commission-approved program of professional preparation. -
Combination of Coursework & Exam
SMR may be met through a combination of coursework and CSET exams that meets or exceeds the subject matter domains. Candidates may have their transcripts evaluated to meet one or more of the CSET subtests if they have sufficient, qualifying coursework in the subject matter domains.
