Basic Needs Black Student Success Grant
Request Information:
The Black Student Success Grant was established to assist Black students experiencing unexpected urgent financial need surrounding their basic needs. The goal of the program is to remove financial roadblocks to degree completion, well-being, and access to basic needs resources. This grant provides eligible Black students with one-time financial assistance, up to $500, to support financial hardship impacting basic needs.
Grant funds are meant to address temporary financial hardship and are not a replacement for financial aid.
The Black Student Success Grant is sponsored by CSUSB Basic Needs and Student Support, made possible through the generous support of donors through philanthropic donations.
The Basic Needs Grant is not a loan and does not need to be repaid.
Citizenship status does not affect eligibility for this grant.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be currently enrolled in 6 units or more at CSUSB
- Must have unmet financial need in Accordance with CSUSB Cost of Attendance
- Must identify as a Black CSUSB student
- If requested, applicants must meet with a Basic Needs Coordinator to develop and implement a mutually agreed upon action plan to improve financial sustainability prior to funds grant funds being issued
Below are a few examples to assist you in determining if you may qualify for the Black Student Success Grant:
- Unexpected economic challenges due to loss of income
- Homelessness or displacement due to an unforeseen event or unsafe living conditions
- Documented theft of books and other essential academic belongings
- Uninsured dental or medical emergency
- Loss of Transportation, car accident or unforeseen car repairs
