CJ Online - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

 Applicant FAQ

The College of Extended and Global Education does not offer pre-assessments of transcripts or course equivalency reviews before an official application is submitted.

For assistance in evaluating course equivalencies, applicants are encouraged to use the ASSIST website, which is particularly useful in conjunction with meeting with a campus counselor. This resource helps students and counselors collaboratively establish a pathway for transferring from a public California community college to a public California university.

All College of Extended and Global Education (CEGE) - Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) students have a CEL Hold placed on their accounts. This hold is a service indicator and does not affect your course registration or the processing of financial aid distributions.

Please rest assured that the CEL Hold is in place solely to help the CEGE - PaCE department effectively track your enrollment progress.

Students admitted to the online program cannot transition to the stateside program. To join the traditional (stateside) program, students must request to have their online application closed and then reapply for admission to the traditional program.

To complete this process, please contact your Academic Advisor as soon as possible.

Fees & Financing FAQ

Students with a past due balance will have a hold placed on their registration and may not be enrolled by the Academic Advisor until the balance is paid in full or the student is placed on an Installment Payment Plan (IPP) and meets the CEGE - Financial Services eligibility requirements.

Please allow 1-3 business days for the registration hold to be released from your account after making an online payment or establishing an IPP.

Visit the fees and financing section of your program to view the tuition due dates.

CEGE students should submit all payments through the online system managed by the Professional and Continuing Education Program. We currently accept Visa, MasterCard, and American Express.

The Student and Financial Services Department also accepts phone payments:

  • Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Summer Hours: Monday - Thursday, 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.)

All students are encouraged to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as they apply for the program. Financial aid programs provide support to help cover the costs of obtaining a college education, funded by federal and state governments, individual colleges, and various public and private sources.

Steps to Access Financial Aid:

  1. Prepare: Familiarize yourself with the types of aid available, determine how much you’ll need, and check your eligibility.
  2. Apply: Most students must use the FAFSA to apply for aid, except for some scholarships. Complete the online FAFSA when ready.
  3. Receive: The Department of Education will inform you and CSUSB of your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). CSUSB will then communicate how much and what types of aid you qualify for. Be sure to check your CSUSB email regularly for updates.
  4. Repay: If your aid includes loans, understand the repayment process. Loans are a legal obligation, so consider the total amount you’ll need to repay.

Categories of Financial Aid

Financial aid is divided into two main categories:

  1. Achievement-Based Aid: Awarded to students with special characteristics, skills, talents, or abilities, typically in the form of scholarships.
  2. Need-Based Aid: Provided to students who demonstrate financial need, primarily based on the FAFSA and federal formulas.

Basic Types of Financial Aid Programs

  1. Grants: Federal or state gift assistance with no obligation for work or repayment.
  2. Loans: Funds provided now with a future repayment obligation.
  3. Scholarships: Gift assistance with no obligation for work or repayment.
  4. Work-Study: Part-time work opportunities while attending school.

Most financial aid packages consist of a combination of these types, depending on fund availability, your eligibility, the timing of your application, and your year in school.

  • Federal Pell Grant: This grant is provided by the federal government to help cover educational expenses. Pell Grants are awarded to students with exceptional financial need who have not earned a bachelor’s, graduate, or professional degree.
  • Cal Grants: Cal Grants are funds for college that do not require repayment. To qualify, you must apply through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA) by the deadline. Eligibility is based on financial need, GPA, and the type of California colleges listed on your application. Recent high school graduates are also considered.
  • Direct Loans: Direct Loans are offered through a federal loan program and must be repaid.
    • Direct Subsidized Loans are for eligible undergraduate students demonstrating financial need.
    • Direct Unsubsidized Loans are available to eligible undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, regardless of financial need.

For more information on tuition and fees, scholarships, grants, and loans, please contact Nicolette Cusino, Financial Aid Advisor and CEGE Liaison, at (909) 537-5220 or nicolette.cusino@csusb.edu.
