The CSUSB Theatre Arts Department presents Naomi Iizuka’s ‘Anon(ymous)’ May 14, 15 and 16.

CSUSB’s Department of Theatre Arts 2020-2021 Season of Love, Hope, and Change comes to a virtual conclusion with Naomi Iizuka’s “Anon(ymous),” based on Homer’s classic poem “The Odyssey.” This final virtual performance will drop on the department’s Vimeo channel for four performances beginning May 14.

This contemporary adaptation of the 2,800-year-old classic features the struggles of young Anon, a quick-witted refugee from a war-torn nation as he wanders the American landscape determined to find his mother, who was torn from his side during an accident at sea. Along his journey he crosses paths with many colorful characters, such as a teenage goddess and a cycloptic sausage maker, among other treacherous obstacles, but none are able to deter him from his destiny.

Originally commissioned and produced by The Children’s Theatre Company of Minneapolis, Iizuka’s “Anon(ymous)” takes the classic “heroes’ journey” and plays it through the eyes of the modern immigrant, with a twist of the fantastic.

“Anon(ymous)” opens Friday, May 14, at 7 p.m., with two performances on Saturday May 15, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and will conclude its run Sunday, May 16, at 2 p.m. These dates are subject to change.

Tickets are only $5 each and available for purchase at theatre.csusb.edu. For additional information, please contact the Theatre Box Office at (909) 537-5884 or email theatrearts@csusb.edu.
