Imani Barbarin, disability rights and inclusion activist, delivered the keynote address virtually at the annual Social Justice Summit. CSUSB students had the opportunity to attend live watch parties of the keynote at the San Bernardino and Palm Desert campuses, where they enjoyed a free lunch while listening to her powerful message.
“Let 2024-25 be the year of re-engagement with our students so that we can build student success. This must be the focus of all who work on this campus, regardless of what position you hold or what area of responsibility you cover,” CSUSB President Tomás D. Morales said.
Andre Harrington (theatre arts) was featured in an article about his new role as department chair, and Brian Levin (criminal justice, emeritus) discussed the rise in antisemitic incidents as new hate crime statistics are reported.

Jason F. Reimer (psychology) co-wrote a paper on a tool measuring how people concentrate, Jess Block Nerren (communication studies), Becky Sumbera and Shannon Sparks (education), J. Chad Sweeney (English) will participate in the public reading of a new book on Feb. 2, and Stuart Sumida (biology) reached a milestone as a film consultant.
The book, which includes several CSUSB contributors, explores the scholarly research related to autism inclusion, disability inclusion, disability studies, communication, critical scholarship, education, education reform and educational leadership.
The WASC Senior College and University Commission has awarded Cal State San Bernardino the maximum reaffirmation accreditation commending the university for its work and accomplishments.
An award-winning author and member of Latino Literature Hall of Fame, Urrea will discuss his identity as a poet, novelist and essayist at CSUSB’s Hispanic Heritage Month virtual closing celebration on at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15.
