Cal State San Bernardino will host the 2025 Global Influence in Sports Management Lecture, featuring insights from Olympic badminton champion Tony Gunawan and Global Badminton Academy co-founder Eti Gunawan. The event will take place on March 27, from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. in the College of Extended and Global Education, room CGI-103. Attendance is free for all CSUSB students, faculty and staff. The Jack H. Brown College of Business & Public Administration’s Center for Global Management is presenting this event as part of its commitment to connecting students with influential leaders in global sports management. The Gunawans’ unique experiences as elite athletes and industry professionals will offer key insights into the evolving landscape of international sports.

Tony Gunawan, widely regarded as one of the greatest doubles players in badminton history, is a 2000 Olympic gold medalist, two-time IBF World Champion, and former coach for USA Badminton and the Orange County Badminton Club. Originally competing for Indonesia from 1992 to 2001, Gunawan later became a U.S. citizen and continued to make an impact in the sport as both a player and a coach.
Joining him is Eti Lesmina Tantra Gunawan, an accomplished event manager at USA Badminton. Known for her expertise in relationship-building and event coordination, she has played a crucial role in shaping badminton events on an international scale. Together, the Gunawans have competed in prestigious tournaments, including the Yonex Grand Prix Badminton Championships.
