‘It is unacceptable’: L.A. County hate crimes reached an all-time high last year

Brian Levin, founder of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at Cal State San Bernardino and a member of the California Commission on the State of Hate, was interviewed for an article about the increase in hate crimes in Los Angeles County, which have been trending up since 2014; last year’s tally of more than 1,300 incidents – 45% from the year before – marked a significant jump. He said the new data provided by the LA County Commission on Human Relations could force the state to change findings released this summer that hate crimes in California had decreased by 7.1% in 2023 from 2022 levels.

The Yucaipa City Council has appointed Bob Miller, an adjunct instructor in the CSUSB Department of Public Administration, to replace ousted Councilmember Matt Garner. Miller is a retired Colton police chief.
