Cal State San Bernardino will host the annual Southern California Conference for Undergraduate Research (SCCUR) on Nov. 23. The conference provides a forum to showcase the outstanding research, scholarship and creative work of undergraduate students from universities across Southern California. SCCUR celebrates the work of students in multiple academic disciplines, including science, humanities, social sciences, arts and performing arts.

Each year, SCCUR attracts 700-900 undergraduate student participants, who present their work in the form of oral presentations, posters, and creative exhibits and performances, as well as the participants’ faculty mentors and guests. Participants come from 80 institutions in Southern California and across the nation, with some international presenters. This marks the second time CSUSB has hosted SCCUR, previously hosting the conference virtually in 2021.

“I am delighted that CSUSB will be hosting this year’s SCCUR conference,” said Tomás D. Morales, CSUSB president. “The ability to undertake research as an undergraduate is a student success mechanism — it builds engagement and skills that can be used regardless of whether a student goes on to graduate work or enters the workplace after they receive their degree. We are proud to be able to further support student research through this convening.”

Led by the Office of Student Research, the conference reaffirms the department’s commitment to provide CSUSB students with invaluable opportunities to showcase their scholarly achievements on a national stage and promote undergraduate research in dynamic ways.

Southern California Conference for Undergraduate Research is an organization of Southern California faculty, administrators and interested members of the community who share the common goal of improving education for college and university students through hands-on experiences of undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity. It supports inquiry-based education, in which students learn while doing, working closely with faculty mentors on significant academic projects and presenting their results to audiences in a professional manner.
