The Black Faculty Promotion Celebration will honor the achievements of newly promoted Black faculty and those who are new to their teaching roles at CSUSB on Oct. 11 from 5-7 p.m. in the Santos Manuel Student Union Theater. Hosted by CSUSB’s Office of Black Student Success, in collaboration with the Black Faculty, Staff and Student Association, the event highlights the importance of diversity in higher education, fostering connections among faculty, staff and students.

The event is open to the campus community, as well as the families of the faculty being honored. Attendees will welcome new faculty, network and celebrate the diversity that makes up Cal State San Bernardino. RSVP to the event on the Black Faculty Promotion Celebration online form.

Eight new faculty, three of whom are tenure track, and Marc Robinson, who was promoted to associate professor of history and earned tenure, will be recognized. The event will feature light refreshments, camaraderie and music, some of which will be selected by Robinson that represents his journey to tenured faculty, highlighting the significance of the occasion.

In 2018, Robinson began working at Cal State San Bernardino, where he teaches courses on African American and U.S. history. He has been recognized for his contributions to the university.

Robinson was named a member of the 2022 class of Mellon Emerging Faculty Leaders, which supports junior faculty whose research focuses on contemporary American history, politics, culture and society, and who are committed to the creation of an inclusive campus community for underrepresented students and scholars. Additionally, Robinson was the 2021-22 recipient of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences’ Outstanding Junior Faculty Award.

In addition to his faculty role, Robinson has contributed to the community by serving on the planning committee for the “Bridges That Carried Us Over Project,” a community-based collaborative initiative aimed at documenting Black history in the Inland Empire. It was one of the first documentation projects to capture the stories, experiences and history of the Black community in the region.
