Cal State San Bernardino is among the top schools in the nation in Money magazine’s 2024 list of Best Colleges, earning a 4.5-star rating. The list ranks schools on 25 factors in three categories: quality of education, affordability and student outcomes, such as economic mobility and graduates’ earnings.

Money evaluated 745 out of more than 2,400 U.S. public and private nonprofit colleges. To make the list, a college had to meet the requirements for the magazine’s methodology, which included undergraduate student enrollment, financial health and graduation rates.

In 2022, the magazine updated its numbered rankings to a rating system to more accurately represent the variation in a college’s performance and help families of prospective students gain a better understanding of its value. Schools were grouped into seven ratings from 2 to 5 stars.

“In a numbered ranking, very small differences in colleges’ scores result in different ranks, exaggerating the difference in performance. As experts have long advised, it’s more important to look broadly at where a college lands on a list and not its precise rank,” said the magazine’s website.

Money highlighted CSUSB’s offerings, including glassblowing facilities, a crime analysis lab, and an electronic music studio, as well as the university’s various student support programs, such as the Veterans Success Center.

The magazine also recognized Cal State San Bernardino’s 70 percent graduation rate, which it finds is more than 24 percent higher than expected for institutions with similar student populations.
