The Womxn's History Exhibit shone a light on 10 womxn whose contributions have indelibly marked the world. One of the main events hosted by the Womxn’s History Month committee, the exhibit took place on March 19 in the Women’s Resource Center at Santos Manuel Student Union North.
The exhibit featured the stories of Frida Kahlo, Amelia Earhart, Gloria Steinem, Rosa Parks, Bessie Coleman, Marsha P. Johnson, Maya Angelou, Madam C.J. Walker, Mary Wollstonecraft, and Marie Curie. Through photos and detailed narratives, the exhibit not only celebrated these womxn's groundbreaking contributions but also highlighted their lasting impact on the world.
To make the experience more interactive, the event included a bingo game where attendees could enter a raffle drawing by completing a bingo card printed with the names of each of the 10 featured womxn. This added an element of engagement and allowed visitors to connect more deeply with the histories being shared.
Amber Adams, co-chair of the Womxn's History Month Committee, shared insights into the decision to host an exhibit instead of the initially planned Womxn's Walk event.
"I think it turned out better as an exhibit," Adams said. "It brings people together at the Women's Resource Center and gives them the opportunity to not only learn about these influential womxn but also about the resources available to them on this campus."
Fostering a sense of community and learning, the center, known for its welcoming and empowering environment, proved to be an ideal location for the exhibit.
At CSUSB, we intentionally spell womxn with an X as an objection to the patriarchal idea that womxn are an extension to men and the inclusion of all womxn go beyond just cis-women.
