Cal State San Bernardino President Tomás D. Morales will give the keynote speech at the university’s Convocation celebration on Thursday, Aug. 18, to mark the start of the 2022-23 academic year.

Morales, who has led the university since 2012, will talk about CSUSB’s achievements in the 2021-22 school year as well as the goals and challenges for the upcoming school year, when fall semester classes begin on August 20.

The convocation, which will be held at 9 a.m. at Coussoulis Arena, will lead off with interim provost and vice president for academic affairs, Rafik Mohamed, who will serve as master of ceremonies.

Among the highlights will be:

  • Campus leaders Claudia Davis, chair of the faculty senate; Jaime Espinoza, chair of the staff council; and Paolo Galvez, president of the Associated Students, Inc., will introduce members of the faculty senate, the staff council executive committee, and the ASI executive officers.
  • New staff and faculty will be welcomed along with the recognition of newly promoted staff and faculty and congratulations to all who reached an educational milestone.
  • The program will then recognize last year’s outstanding faculty.

Robert Nava, the vice president of advancement, will discuss the Faculty Staff Campaign.

Paz Olivérez, the vice president for student affairs, will announce the winners of the President’s Team Achievement Awards.

Jeanne Durr, the interim vice president for human resources, will announce the winners of the President’s Special Achievement Awards.

Samuel Sudhakar, vice president for information technology services, will announce the winners of the Outstanding Employee Award.

The convocation will also feature a highlight video of the university’s accomplishments, faculty, staff and students, which will be shown following Morales’ address.
