As part of their street medicine efforts, four nursing students from the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus and Coachella Valley Volunteers in Medicine (CVVIM) provided 41 flu shots at a drive-thru flu shot clinic at the North Shore Beach and Yacht Club at the Salton Sea on Nov. 20.
The Street Medicine program is a collaborative partnership between the CSUSB Department of Nursing at the Palm Desert Campus; the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine; Desert Regional Medical Center; Well in the Desert; and the Coachella Valley Volunteers in Medicine. They provide much-needed healthcare services for homeless and unsheltered people in the Coachella Valley.
“We are so pleased to partner with the Coachella Valley Volunteers in Medicine and Rosa Lucas on providing these important flu shots to vulnerable populations in the East Valley,” said Diane Vines, Street Medicine program coordinator and CSUSB nursing faculty member. “Our students are dedicated to helping people in need in the Coachella Valley.”
