The Cal State San Bernardino Alumni Association has welcomed three new members to its Board of Directors for the 2020-23 term: Danny Bilson ’78, Carly McCarty ’11 ’20, and DeMarco Washington ’18.

Bilson, who received his bachelor’s degree in theater arts, was a highly involved student during his time at CSUSB and was the president of the theater department’s official student organization, The Players of the Pear Garden. Bilson is an expert in narrative design; he has created more than 150 hours of television content and was a senior executive at two publicly traded game publishers. Bilson, who is a professor and chair of the Interactive Media and Games Division at the University of Southern California, co-wrote the American war drama film “Da 5 Bloods” with his late writing partner and fellow CSUSB theater arts alumnus Paul De Meo ’78. The film was directed by Spike Lee and released on Netflix on June 12.

McCarty received two master’s degrees while at CSUSB: a master of arts in educational administration along with a certificate in credential in preliminary administrative services and a master of science in counseling and guidance. She served on the board of Second Harvest Food Bank and was the secretary for the student chapter of the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA). She also produced and hosted a local television show that supported local businesses. McCarty is passionate about advocating for opportunities to support CSUSB students and to develop programs that will meet mutual needs.

Washington, who received his bachelor’s degree in psychology, was highly involved as a CSUSB student; he was a student mentor and was involved with Coyote First STEP (Student Transition Enrichment Program). A member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) chapter of San Bernardino, Washington continues to utilize his platform to further engage with CSUSB alumni and his network to continue to support the community at large. He is the owner and CEO of Gaming Community Establishment LLC, in which video game tournaments are hosted across the world. His mission is to continue to bring together various communities to enjoy and compete in video games.
