Homecoming, one of Cal State San Bernardino’s most anticipated fall events, proved to be a huge success as about 2,500 students, alumni, faculty, staff and members of the community came to campus on Saturday, Oct. 19, making it the most attended homecoming event in the university’s history.

“Many of the people who came to our Homecoming Bash were alumni that had not been back to campus since they graduated, and were very excited to reengage,” said Crystal Wymer-Lucero, director of CSUSB’s Alumni Relations. “It was great to welcome them back to campus.”

The large number of attendees was evident at Coussoulis Arena that evening as more than 1,200 people attended the volleyball match, where the Coyotes swept their inland rivals, the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos, 3-0. And former Coyote volleyball standout Samantha Middleborn was inducted into the CCAA Hall of Fame during the match.

The Homecoming Bash featured: free food from university vendors, a beer garden, a kids zone for family fun, inflatables, giveaways, a photo booth, Spirit Station and face painting.

The university’s Honor’s Program held an open house, celebrating its 30th anniversary as 25 campus departments had information tables, also setting a record for the most campus participation at a homecoming event.

Later that evening, the Murillo Family Observatory opened with student clubs setting up telescopes as attendees were able to gaze at Jupiter and Saturn.
