CSUSB institute’s report on region’s economy cited in news report

The manufacturing sector produced some troubling numbers in September, in terms of both national and regional surveys and in at least one local on-the-ground decision, the newspaper reported.
On a regional level, the index for the Inland Empire, prepared by the Institute of Applied Research at Cal State San Bernardino, fell to 49.7, the second time in four months it has been below 50.
The CSUSB index shows the level of new orders and production is still strong, but Barbara Sirotnik, director of the institute, said in her report that the volatility of the last few months is a concern.
“If in fact, the local PMI remains below 50 for two more months there will be indications that the local manufacturing sector has changed direction and is now contracting,” Sirotnik wrote.
