One more hurdle – graduation.
 
That’s all that’s left for Cal State San Bernardino’s Class of 2019 after years of attending class, doing homework, making presentations and lots of late nights studying for midterms and finals, to reach their ultimate goal – a college degree.
 
That last hurdle will be accomplished during CSUSB’s five commencement ceremonies, when more than 3,600 students from the main campus and the Palm Desert Campus are expected to participate in Commencement exercises.
 
As part of the ceremonies, the university will bestow an honorary doctorate of humane letters to noted philanthropist and supporter of higher education throughout the world, Dr. Sang-Kyun Lee, CEO of South Korea-based Shin-Il Corporation and chairman of the Shin-Il Foundation, during the College of Arts & Letters Commencement on Saturday, June 15.
 
The ceremony will be held at Toyota Arena in Ontario, where all the San Bernardino commencements will be held.
 
The Palm Desert Campus held its Commencement ceremony with a record 394 students expected to participate on Thursday, June 13, at THE SHOW at Agua Caliente, 32-250 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage.
 
The PDC recognized Michael Muela as its outstanding undergraduate student and Nicole Phillips as its outstanding graduate student. Muela received a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Phillips received a master’s degree in special education, as well as a teaching credential.
 
Commencement ceremonies continue on Saturday, June 15, when CSUSB’s five colleges will honor their graduating students at Citizens Business Bank Arena, 4000 E. Ontario Center Parkway, in Ontario. Parking at Citizens Business Bank Arena will be $10 in lots A, B, C and D. Guests are encouraged to bring exact change.
 
The four ceremonies will be: 8 a.m., College of Social & Behavioral Sciences; noon, Jack H. Brown College of Business & Public Administration; 4 p.m., College of Natural Sciences; and 8 p.m., College of Arts & Letters and College of Education.
 
Now in its fifth year at Citizens Business Bank Arena, CSUSB moved its Commencement ceremony to Ontario from the university’s Coussoulis Arena due to the increasing number of graduates and their guests.
 
All of the ceremonies at Citizens Business Bank Arena will be livestreamed on the video library page under “Live Webcast.”  
 
The College of Social & Behavioral Sciences is expected to have the largest commencement with more than 1,110 students likely to participate. The college will honor Melody Robinson of San Bernardino as its outstanding undergraduate student and Alana Muller as its outstanding graduate student. Robinson will receive a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Muller will receive a master’s degree in psychology.
 
The Jack H. Brown College of Business & Public Administration will hold its ceremony at noon with 785 students expected to participate. The Brown College will honor Ashley Moeller of Desert Hot Springs as its outstanding undergraduate student and Jess Laird of El Cerritos as the outstanding graduate student. Moeller will receive a bachelor’s degree in accounting and Laird with a master’s degree in social work and public administration.
 
The College of Natural Sciences will hold its ceremony at 4 p.m. with 672 students expected to participate. The college will honor Jennifer Gallardo as the outstanding undergraduate student and Dolores Mancha as the outstanding graduate student. Gallardo will receive a bachelor’s degree in biology and Mancha will receive a master’s degree in public health.
 
Concluding ceremonies will be at 8 p.m. for the College of Arts & Letters and the College of Education, where 639 students are expected to participate with 483 at the College of Art & Letters and 156 at College of Education.
 
The College of Arts & Letters will honor Aubrey Guldemond as the outstanding undergraduate student, and Frederick Brashear and Victoria Porraz as the outstanding graduate students. Guldemond will receive a bachelor’s degree in English, Brashear will receive a master’s degree in English composition and Porraz will receive a Master of Fine Art degree in studio art.
 
The College of Education will honor Genesis Guardado as the outstanding graduate student and Quinton Bemiller as the outstanding doctoral student. Guardado will receive a master’s degree in counseling and guidance, and Bemiller will receive an educational doctorate in educational leadership.
