The 2017 Inland Empire Composers Concert Series kicks off its season on Saturday, Jan. 28, and among the region’s composers who will be highlighted is Allen Menton, a Cal State San Bernardino assistant professor of music.
The concert series is a collective of composers from the Inland Empire who seek to connect with musicians and audiences in a shared love of new music. In addition to Menton, featured composers include: Robert Winokur, director, Crafton Hills College; William Beuche, assistant director, San Bernardino Valley College;, Abraham Fabella, All Saints Episcopal in Riverside; and Tim Labor, UC Riverside.

Enrique Murillo, CSUSB professor of education, was one of several Latino leaders who met at UC Riverside Jan. 14 to discuss plans to combat President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed policy changes that may affect millions in the U.S. The one hundred or so educators, community organizers, and officeholders that formed the National Latina/o Defense Alliance intend to hold a series of political summits across California to mobilize the Latino population
“In order to be effective, we need folks who are going to contribute labor,” said Murillo. “We’re not looking for people to spectate. We’re going to disagree, but we have to organize around the issues we agree upon.”
