The Cal State San Bernardino Department of Theatre Arts will unleash a new vision of the classic “Mother Courage and Her Children,” by German dramatist and poet Betolt Brecht, with a masterful translation by David Hare.
The production will open Friday, March 10, at the university’s Ronald E. Barnes Theatre.
Throughout the world a permanent state of urban warfare has decimated civil order as opposing nationalists vie for control. Traveling merchant Mother Courage (Myranda Agueros) and her three children (Celia Worster, Garrett Vaughn and Daniel Delgado), roam the decimated cityscape in a makeshift wagon that acts as both a general store and their home. Courage’s efforts to support her family in the face of relentless and pointless war highlights the collateral damage of non-combatants in a story as old as Herakles and as new as tomorrow’s front page.
Directed by theatre arts professor Tom Provenzano, with original folk-rock score by CSUSB alumni Erik Hjortnaes, “Mother Courage and Her Children” collides with the Barnes Theatre stage March 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18 at 8 p.m., and March 12 and 19 at 2 p.m.
Due to adult content, “Mother Courage and Children” is NOT recommended for anyone under the age of 17.
“Mother Courage and Her Children” has been made possible in part by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities: Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence.
Individual and season tickets can be purchased from the CSUSB Theatre Arts Box Office, or online at theatre.csusb.edu.
Tickets are $6 for students and children under 17; $12 for faculty, staff, senior citizens and military; $15 for adults. Performances take place in the Ronald E. Barnes Theatre on the CSUSB campus.
Parking at CSUSB is $6 Monday-Friday and $3 on the weekend.
