Cal State San Bernardino’s new Staff Development Center (SDC), created to increase training opportunities for the university’s staff, will have its grand opening on Tuesday, Sept. 12, from 1-3 p.m. in the John M. Pfau Library (wedge and room PL-1104).

The SDC’s purpose is to promote and encourage opportunities for professional and personal growth. The center will provide services to staff that include training and development workshops, career track series, resume reviews, mock interviews and a hub for staff resources.

The center’s creation came as a result of the 2015-2020 university’s Strategic Plan, Goal No. 2 on faculty and staff success.

“I am thrilled to see how much progress we’ve made in a short amount of time,” said SDC director Rowena Woidyla. “We are one of the few CSU campuses to have our own center dedicated to staff development, and this could not happen without support from our leadership and campus community.”

In February and March, the 12-member Staff Development Center Implementation and Advisory Committee held six forums at the San Bernardino campus and Palm Desert Campus. About 125 CSUSB employees attended the forums, which focused on the creation and implementation of the Staff Development Center and training plan.

The staff also held an online survey for employees who wanted to give their input, but were unable to attend the forums.

The program will begin at 1 p.m. for staff and guests to connect. At 1:30 p.m. there will be opening remarks and a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed at 2 p.m. with activities, a drawing and tours of the center. The program concludes at 3 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
