In advance of the screening of the documentary film “HEAL,” the Cal State San Bernardino Palm Desert Campus hosted Adam Schomer, the producer of the film, on Thursday, Nov. 16, during the campus’s University Hour event.

In a lively discussion with Palm Desert Campus communication studies faculty member Bob Leo, Schomer shared with students, faculty and staff how following one’s bliss is the key to a successful and fulfilling life.

Schomer also took questions from students during the event.

“HEAL,” which includes interviews with noted psychologists, healers and people confronting illness, takes its audience on a scientific and spiritual journey to discover how changing one’s perceptions can help the human body heal itself. Essentially, the film challenges assumptions about medical treatment and medicine.

“HEAL” will be shown today, Friday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m., in the campus’s Indian Wells Theater. A Q& A and reception with the filmmakers and a few of those featured in the film will follow the screening on Nov. 17.

“HEAL” takes audiences on a scientific and spiritual journey to discover that one’s thoughts, beliefs and emotions have a huge impact on health and the ability to heal. The film is premiering in New York and Los Angeles, with this showing one of the first public theatrical releases in the nation.

The documentary has been honored in the Boston, Maui, Illuminate and Spirit Film Festivals.

According to the documentary website, “The latest science reveals that we are not victims of unchangeable genes, nor should we buy into a scary prognosis. The fact is we have more control over our health and life than we have been taught to believe. This film will empower people with a new understanding of the miraculous nature of the human body and the extraordinary healer within us all.”

“‘HEAL” not only taps into the brilliant minds of leading scientists and spiritual teachers, but follows three people on actual high stakes healing journeys. Healing can be extremely complex and deeply personal, but it can also happen spontaneously in a moment. Through these inspiring and emotional stories, the audience finds out what works, what doesn't and why,” according to the documentary website.

The film features Deepak Chopra, Joe Dispenza, Anita Moorjani, Bruce Lipton, Marianne Williamson, Michael Beckwith, Gregg Braden, Anthony William, Kelly Turner and many more.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online at the Indian Wells Theater website.

More information on the film can be found at the “HEAL” website.
