The Korean Festival at Cal State San Bernardino, which is open to the public, will offer attendees the opportunity to experience Korean culture through art, food and performance on Friday, April 27.

Admission to the dinner reception and performance showcase is $5 (cash only) and tickets are available at the ASI Box Office. The art workshop is free. Parking at CSUSB is $6.

“Korean Festival delivers an essential message of globalization to our diverse CSUSB campus by bringing together the international and domestic communities,” said Bomi Hwang, lecturer in Korean and adviser of the Korean Culture Club. “Korean culture is a medium to achieve this goal.”

Before the dinner reception and performance showcase, guests are invited to a free art workshop, hosted by the CSUSB Korean Culture Club, from 3-4:30 p.m. at the Santos Manual Student Union Events Center. Professional Korean artists will show attendees how to create a Korean folk painting called minhwa and a box made out of hanji, traditional Korean paper. Seating is first-come, first-served. All materials are provided and guests get to keep the art they create. The art workshop is sponsored by the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles.

The dinner reception, which begins at 5 p.m. in the SMSU Events Center, will offer bulgogi, a Korean beef dish, and banchan, small side dishes served along with cooked rice in Korean cuisine. The meal will be prepared by Cecilia Hae-Jin Lee, chef, restaurateur and award-winning cookbook writer.

Following the dinner reception will be the performance showcase at 6:30 p.m. in the SMSU Theater, featuring internationally acclaimed performers in both modern and traditional styles. Guests will have the opportunity to watch Sandaenori, a traditional Korean folk mask dance, as well as vocal, percussion and string instrument performances.

The Korean Festival is sponsored by the CSUSB Asian Faculty, Staff and Student Association; the Cross Cultural Center; the University Diversity Committee; the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles; and MeHee Hanbok Boutique.
