The accomplishments of Cal State San Bernardino’s undocumented students were celebrated at the third annual Undocumented Graduation Recognition Ceremony, held at the university’s Santos Manuel Student Union Events Center on June 8.

About 45 students participated in the ceremony. Each received a certificate of accomplishment and a special sash to wear with their commencement robes at ceremonies this coming weekend.

The event featured remarks from CSUSB President Tomás D. Morales; Olivia Rosas, associate vice president of Student Success and Educational Equity; and Iván Ceja, an undocumented immigrant activist whose parents brought him to the United States when he was a few months old.

Ceja, who was among the first undocumented immigrants to be approved for deferred status, is the executive director and co-founder of Undocumedia, an organization that provides information and advocacy to DREAMers and undocumented students, as well as advocacy for all immigrants’ rights, including the Black Lives Matter and No Ban, No Wall movement, LGBTQ rights, and Muslims’ rights.
