A Special Message to the Campus Community: Following Dr. Brian Haynes’ appointment as the new Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at UC Riverside, I am pleased to announce the launch of our transition plan in preparation for a national search. Harry Le Grande, vice chancellor emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley, has agreed to serve as the Interim Vice President for Student Affairs, effective September 1. Mr. Le Grande is a nationally recognized leader in student affairs, having served 8 ½ years as the chief student affairs officer at one of the world’s premier public teaching and research universities. During his tenure at Berkeley, he managed the Associate Vice Chancellor/Dean of Students, Associate Vice Chancellor Residential and Student Service Programs, Associate Vice Chancellor Admissions and Enrollment, Executive Director for Philanthropy, Independent Hearing Officer, and the Ombudsperson for Student and Postdoctoral Appointees. Mr. Le Grande led 19 administrative units with an estimated 1,336 career positions and an annual operating budget of $385 million. In addition to being a native of San Bernardino and a graduate of San Bernardino High School, he brings a level of experience from the California State University system, having recently served Sonoma as Interim Vice President for Student Affairs. Mr. Le Grande earned his Baccalaureate degree in social ecology from UC Irvine and his Master’s degree in college student services from Oregon State. His list of recognitions is incredibly impressive, including the 2017 Pillar of the Profession Award (National Association of Student Personnel Administrators), a 2016 Diamond Honoree (American College Personnel Association) and the 2016 Berkeley Citation, the highest honor awarded by the University of California’s founding campus. We will launch a national search early this fall, bringing together a wide breadth of our communities to help identify CSUSB’s next Vice President for Student Affairs. But today we are well-positioned to manage this important operation for the 2018-19 academic year. Please join me in welcoming Harry to the Cal State San Bernardino family. Tomás D. MoralesPresident
