Nely Galán, the first Latina president of a television network, will be the keynote speaker at a Thursday, Feb. 25, breakfast workshop, “Making an Impact,” at Cal State San Bernardino. She will address how to positively impact the community as part of the university’s yearlong 50th anniversary celebration.

“Making an Impact” will be from 8-10 a.m. in the university’s Obershaw Dining Room, Upper Commons. Registration and check-in begin at 7:30 a.m. Tickets are $25. The event is sponsored by CSUSB’s College of Business and Public Administration and The Coca-Cola Company.

Galán will present The Adelante Movement, a grassroots initiative that unites and empowers Latinas economically and entrepreneurially. Adelante encourages Latinas to be a powerful voice in the community and play a leading role in American society, economics and politics. The Adelante Movement is presented by The Coca-Cola Company. and forms part of the company’s “5by20” global initiative to enable the economic empowerment of 5 million women entrepreneurs by 2020.

“I tell Latinas there is no prince charming. Buy buildings, not shoes. And that every corporation wants our vote and purchasing power,” said Galán. “Latinas are a positive answer to this country’s economy, and Adelante is committed to training them to become entrepreneurs and empowering them with the tools, support and motivation they need to succeed.” “Coca-Cola is committed to empowering women entrepreneurs, and we know our partners share the same aspirations for our community as we do,” said Peter Villegas, vice president of Latin Affairs for Coca-Cola North America. “Teaming up with The Adelante Movement and Cal State San Bernardino grants us the opportunity to invest in women and help them achieve their entrepreneurial goals.”

Galán, who will also lead a special workshop on entrepreneurship during the event, was the first Latina president of Telemundo. She has also owned and operated her own media company since 1994. Galán Entertainment has launched 10 groundbreaking television channels in Latin America, and has also produced a staggering 600 episodes of programming that cross all genres, from reality series to sitcoms and telenovelas to talk shows in English and Spanish.

Galán Entertainment was also responsible for creating and executive-producing the smash FOX reality hit “The Swan,” and as its in-house life coach, Galán wrote the bestselling companion book “The Swan Curriculum.” “The Swan” has aired in more than 70 countries around the world, and was famously spoofed by Tina Fey on “Saturday Night Live.

In addition, the entrepreneur has owned her own real estate development and investment company in Santa Clara for 15 years. The company has commercial and residential real estate holdings in multiple states.
