Cal State San Bernardino continues to be recognized for its value to undergraduates and graduate students – it has been ranked among the top universities in the West considered “Best Bang for the Buck,” and among the nation’s leaders in granting master’s degrees, according to a survey by Washington Monthly magazine.

The rankings came from the Washington Monthly’s “2016 College Rankings – What Can Colleges Do For the Country.” Washington Monthly rated “schools based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: Social Mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), Research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and Ph.D.s), and Service (encouraging students to give something back to their country).”

“We are deeply honored to be recognized as a ‘Best Bang for the Buck’ university. Our campus is committed to providing an exceptional and challenging education that enables our students to succeed in the classroom and graduate as well as helping them excel in the workplace. That is especially important as many are the first in their families to receive degrees,” said CSUSB President Tomás D. Morales. “Our outstanding faculty and staff are dedicated to providing a high value educational experience that encourages students to be engaged members of their communities.”

CSUSB was ranked 11th in the survey category Best Bang for the Buck West. The Best Bang for the Buck survey looked at the student loan default rate, the graduation rate, students receiving Pell Grants, the net price for all students attending the university, the net family income, the percentage of students admitted and the ACT/SAT percentile scores.

Cal State San Bernardino was also ranked ninth in the United States in universities granting master’s degrees. The rankings were based on categories that included: research, community service, 6-year graduation rate, the predicted graduation rate, percentage of students receiving federal Pell Grants, median earnings 10 years after graduation, the percentage of first-generation students, the predicted repayment rate and Peace Corps rankings.
