A new generation of CSI pros might be launched this July during Cal State San Bernardino’s 2016 STEM Summer Camp.

The university’s College of Extended Learning will host its 2016 STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Summer Camp July 18-21 for middle school students who are entering the sixth through ninth grade.

The camp is designed to give students the opportunity to learn how scientific principles are applied during a crime scene investigation. From fingerprints to DNA, tool marks to shoe prints and trace evidence, forensic science combines the law with the sciences of biology, chemistry, and physics, among other things.

Throughout the four-day camp, students will engage in hands-on activities.

“They will essentially be working through the recreation of a crime scene,” says Andrew German, program specialist for the CSUSB College of Extended Learning.

Students will also get the opportunity to meet and hear from forensics experts working in this field.

The July 18-21 camp runs from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at CSUSB’s Yasuda Center. Camp cost is $225 and is open to the public. For the 30-minute lunch break, students are encouraged to bring a packed lunch as the meal is not provided.

Registration for the camp must be in by Wednesday, July 13. Enrollment is limited.
