Local authors from the Inland Empire, including members of the Cal State San Bernardino Written by Veterans group, will be celebrated at the High Desert Book Festival on Saturday, Nov. 3 in Apple Valley. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Apple Valley Chamber of Commerce, 16010 Apple Valley Road. The festival will feature local authors doing book signings and readings from their works. The readings will be from every genre, including several authors of children’s books. Among the CSUSB Written by Veterans group will be: Suzy Pearce, Jeff McCarley, Greg Buffington, Charles E. Frye, Will Torres, John R. Cole, Bory Thach, Matthew T. Miller, Corie McCarley, Lyndle Garrett, Ted Peterson, Alfonso Medrano and Andreas Kossak. The writing club is a result of the CSUSB Veterans Success Center’s bi-weekly “Screenwriting for Military Veterans” course. Upon conclusion of the course, a monthly Military Veterans Writers Group was established and a website Written by Veterans was created. Written by Veterans is a free writing program for veterans and their dependents, open to CSUSB students, alumni and community members. The program provides all the skills necessary to write, edit, format, publish and sell written works. There are no fees, and any royalties collected by sales are kept with the writer, as are the copyrights. The program has been so successful that the Veterans Success Center has reserved a booth at the LA Times Festival of Books. For more information on the book festival, visit the High Desert Book Festival website.    For more information on the Veterans Success Center, visit its website.
