CSUSB professor quoted in article about four men accused of separate hate crimesUSA TodayDec. 18, 2018 The newspaper wrote about four separate hate crimes committed by four men within 10 days in October and November, and included among the experts it interviewed Brian Levin, director for the Study of Hate and Extremism at Cal State San Bernardino. “This type of hate criminal differs from one on which criminologists focused in the late 20th century: weekend haters — groups of young men who get their kicks and cement their bond by beating up a member of a minority group or defacing a synagogue or other symbol of perceived otherness,” the newspaper reported. Hate criminals collect grievances like some people collect autographs. “These are not happy people,’’ says Levin.
