Ms. Shirely Kazuyo Muramoto is a Japanese koto musician, teacher, band leader, and filmmaker of Hidden Legacy: Japanese Traditional Performing Arts in the WWII Internment Camps.
Through storytelling, Ms. Shirely Kazuyo Muramoto will reveal how Japanese traditional arts, including music and dance, became vital expressions of identity and hope in the face of adversity.
Muramoto will perform pieces on a Japanese Koto, a traditional stringed instrument. She will be joined by Japanese classical dancer, Dr. Kirk Kanesaka, Dr. Kirk Kanesaka (AKA Gankyō Nakamura) performing a dance popular within the camps, offering a glimpse into the enduring spirit of these communities.
