Chinese American Scientists and US-China Relations: A Historical Perspective from the Cold War to the China Initiative, with Dr. Zuoyue Wang (History, California Polytechnic University, Pomona)
Join us on Monday October 7 at 1pm, in person in the Faculty Center for Excellence, or on Zoom (https://csusb.zoom.us/j/388207496).
Talk Description: Chinese American scientists have made crucial contributions to American science, technology, and medicine, but they have also suffered politically and racially influenced persecutions in the US. In recent years, many have seen the coming of a new US-China Cold War, Chinese/Asian Americans have faced increased hate crimes, and Chinese American scientists have come under intensified scrutiny, especially under the China Initiative that started in 2018. What lessons can we draw from history?
Guest Speaker Bio: Zuoyue Wang is a professor of history at the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, specializing in science, technology, and politics in modern US, China, and transnational contexts.
