Against Racism: Intersectional Justice for/in Palestine
This panel takes an intersectional approach to the Palestinian struggle in face of Israeli apartheid. The speakers come from different disciplines that all intersect around social justice for marginalized communities around the world.
Dr. Lisa Rofel is Professor Emerita at University of California, Santa Cruz. She is a national board member of Jewish Voice for Peace, and was for many years co-coordinator of California Scholars for Academic Freedom and remains on the executive committee.
Dr. Loubna Qutami is Assistant Professor in the Department of Asian American Studies at University of California, Los Angeles. Qutami’s broader scholarly interests include Palestine, critical refugee studies, the racialization of Arab/Muslim communities in the U.S., settler-colonialism, youth movements, transnationalism and indigenous and Third World Feminism.
Dr. James Fenelon is Professor of Sociology and Director of the Center for Indigenous Peoples Studies at CSUSB. His newest book Redskins? Sports Mascots, Indian Nations and White Racism, was written to address compelling social issues concerning Native Nations cultural sovereignty and representation
Dr. Ahlam Muhtaseb is Professor of media studies and the director of the Center for the Study of Muslim and Arab Worlds at CSUSB. Her research interests include digital communication, social media, social justice and diasporic communities. Her most recent project is her award-wining documentary 1948: Creation & Catastrophe.
