In the United States, one out of every five adults has a disability, according to a study published by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The most common disability type was mobility – defined as serious difficulty walking or climbing stairs -- reported by one in eight adults, followed by disability in thinking and/or memory. Often times, students with disabilities are overlooked and face challenges trying to integrate with the general student body. In support of Global Disability Awareness Day, the Office of Services to Students with Disabilities is hosting the 5th annual Ability Awareness Fair. Keynote speakers will speak about raising awareness about disability throughout the community and sharing inspiring and thought-provoking experiences. Followed by an activity portion that will include the following interactive stations featuring different disabilities: Assistive Technology Station Alternate Media Station Blind Maze Entrance Vision Impairment Station Assistive Communication Station Learning Disability Station Mobility Impairment Station Mental Health Station
