October 5th mini-conference: We will have three prominent guest speakers: Dr. Greg Cajete, University of New Mexico and perhaps the best known Native American educator and author of a number of books including “Look to the mountain”; Dr. Jack Miller, University of Toronto and international leader in Holistic Education; and Dr. Vicki Kelley, Simon Frazier University and respected First Nations’ (Canada) educator. Jack’s recent third edition (2018) of his 1988 classic book, The Holistic Curriculum, includes a dialogue with Four Arrows (a Native American educator who co-authored a book with Greg Cajete, as well as his own books on Native American pedagogy) concerning the commonalities and the differences between Native American and Holistic pedagogy. The book also includes a preface by Greg addressing some commonalities. A major focus of the October mini-conference will be that topic and the implications for southern California educators.
