Spotlight on Technology: Virtual Reality

Virtual reality—fully immersive 3D virtual environments in which you can move around freely and even interact with objects—is poised to become a mainstream technology in higher education. Virtual reality offers students true-to-life experiential lessons in areas as diverse as archeology, history, nursing, chemistry, medicine, art, or digital humanities. Although the possibilities of this technology to produce highly interactive and impactful lessons are well recognized, we are at the very beginning of understanding how to incorporate VR elements into our courses.
