Kurt Collins, Professor of Design in the Department of Art, believes that responsible teaching is not about educating for the present, but educating for the future. Designing for virtual reality (VR) environments anticipates demands for designer skills, according to the Gartner’s 2016 hype cycle for emerging technologies. 3D scanning, a process that analyses real-world objects in order to replicate them digitally as three-dimensional objects, is one of the technologies that could assist with the design of virtual reality (VR) environments. In this conversation, Professor Collins will discuss his plans of creating a course around digital 3D design and will comment on the challenges of using VR in the classroom.
