Join CSUSB Adventure for a quick getaway of camping and exploring the beautiful yet rugged Santa Catalina Island. Catalina Island is a place where the gentle rhythm of the waves makes time slow down. It’s a place where you can paddle through crystal clear waters in the crisp morning air, snorkel in some of the most vivid coves in the island, or take a nice hike in the surrounding hills. That Catalina feeling of tranquility is better known as Island Time. Island Time allows you the time to do all the things you love to do, at your own pace. When you’re on Island Time, you’re always having the time of your life.

Itinerary
Day 1: The first day consists of everyone meeting at the SRWC at 7:00am. We will load up as fast as possible and head down to the Catalina Flyer where we will take a 22 mile ferry ride to Avalon. While we are near the coast, we will take a short walk over to Lovers Cove and snorkel in the crystal blue water. Lunch will be provided sometime during the afternoon depending on how people feel. After we finish up snorkeling, we will make a short hike up to our campground. Once camp is set up, you have the rest of the afternoon and evening to explore the local town. While in town, dinner is on your own. CSUSB does not provide dinner (Please bring money).
Day 2: The second day starts off with a morning hike before breakfast. After the hike, breakfast will be served at the campsite. Breakfast is a group effort. Everyone needs to help setup and clean up. Once breakfast is over, the campsite needs to be broken down and packed up. The remainder of the day is spent down in the town of Avalon. There is an optional kayak or bike rental opportunity (addition fee) if you are interested. If you do not want to spend the extra cash you can explore the town or go snorkeling. Our journey home will begin with the ferry, which will depart at 4:30pm from Avalon and will dock in Newport Beach by 5:45pm. On our ride home, we can stop for a quick dinner before arrive on campus by 900pm.
Food
3 meals are included, starting with lunch on day 1 (1 breakfast, 2 lunches). Bring money.
Hygiene and Comfort
We will be carrying our all our food, shelter, clothing, water and equipment in a pack weighting under 40lbs 2 miles. We will be staying in reserved campsites. The campsites are within close proximity to flush toilets, drinking water, and there are showers. You will have the option to share a tent with one or two people or sleep out under the cover of the stars. Light weight tents, warm synthetic sleeping bags, foam pads and ground tarps will be provided to ensure a comfortable night’s sleep. The ground consists of soft to hard soil.
