In 1968, a group of Mexican American students in East L.A. led a series of walkouts to protest substandard school conditions, sparking a movement that changed the educational system – a change many thought impossible.

The Chicano Blowouts of 1968 transformed the consciousness of marginalized students across the nation, creating leaders who battled institutional racism and discrimination.

Join Dr. Isidro Ortiz, Professor of Chicana/o Studies at San Diego State University, for an engaging discussion about the rise and legacy of this student movement that fought for educational justice and equity in Los Angeles high schools and beyond.
