Snow to Sea: Environmental Stewardship Across the Santa Ana River Basin

'The Santa Ana River Basin is the largest and most populated river basin in Southern California. The basin begins in the San Bernardino Mountains, traverses the Inland Empire and terminates near Huntington Beach, CA into the Pacific Ocean. The river basin is unique because it provides water resources across diverse environmental and human landscapes, including the California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) campus. As climate change and human population growth continue to place pressure on water resources, it will become increasingly important to implement diverse strategies to protect this vital resource that supports the various human and environmental communities of this river basin. This presentation will include several speakers who are community volunteers and professionals dedicated to promoting various strategies aimed at protecting the river basin through the lens of environmental, social and economic initiatives. It is the intent of this event to educate, energize and engage our community in learning about the numerous opportunities to experience and protect the unique resources of the river basin. One of the primary goals of this event is contribute to the intellectual vitality of the CSUSB community by showcasing how an interdisciplinary approach to resolving community and environmental problems is more effective, efficient and rewarding than a single disciplinary approach. Another goal is to show that individuals, no matter what their interest and background may be, can play a role in enhancing the Santa Ana River Basin. To ensure these goals are met, each speaker will share their unique experiences related to how they turned their passion for tackling
complex community and environmental problems into a positive experience that benefits the economic, social and environmental factors that characterize the Santa Ana River Basin. The format of the event will include a pre-presentation networking session, individual presentations by each presenter, a question and answer panel discussion, and a post-presentation event so that the audience has an additional opportunity to engage with the presenters with Hors d'oeuvre (from local farms) and drinks provided. In addition, tables that highlight CSUSB student and faculty research, CSUSB departmental programs, local community and CSUSB based organizations that work within the river basin will be available so that attendees can learn more about how they can become an engaged community member and environmental steward.'
