Western Wood-Pewee

The Western Wood-Pewee is encountered as a casual migrant on campus in late April to early May and in September to early October. It is a common spring and fall migrant throughout southern California, and a common breeding bird in the mountains.

The Western Wood-Pewee can be identified by its grayish brown head, breast and upperparts, and whitish throat and belly (the latter sometimes pale yellowish). The crown feathers are often raised giving it a slightly crested appearance.
