Eurasian Collared-Dove

The Eurasian Collared-Dove is a rare, year-round visitor to campus, despite being relatively common in the surrounding residential areas. Originally known only from Asia, it was introduced to the Bahamas in the 1970s, and eventually spread across the continent reaching southeastern California in the late 1990s. It is now common throughout southern California, especially in agricultural and suburban settings.

Eurasian Collared-Doves can be identified by their pale brown head and upper parts, creamy white under parts, white-bordered black collar on the hindneck, and broad white tip to the tail.
