The Northern Pintail is a casual visitor to campus, with three seen in the flooded basins around Badger Hill 05-18 Feb 2012. It is a common winter visitor throughout southern California where it can be found on ponds, lakes, marshes, or any open body of water.The adult male Northern Pintail can be identified by its long, pointy tail, mostly gray body, and brown head with a narrow white stripe extending up the side of the neck. Females are mottled brown overall and have a relatively long neck and tail, and a gray bill.
