The Redhead is a casual visitor to campus: one was seen on 11 Mar 2012 in the flooded basins north of Badger Hill. It is an uncommon winter visitor and a rare breeder throughout southern California where it can be found on deep water ponds, lakes, and reservoirs.The adult male Redhead can be identified by its chestnut head and neck, black breast and rump, gray body, and gray bill with black tip. Females are entirely pale brown with a white eye ring and a pale gray bill with a black tip.
